soule: a shoe find for guys, really!

finding shoes for myself is trouble enough these days when i don’t have the chance to roam the streets, but finding them for j is nearly impossible.  he wants to look stylish but not too metro (though he would never say that himself) and although he has this vague desire to have nice shoes, the actual shopping bit is a tremendous hurdle.  only when the heels are falling off and the scuff marks really cannot be fixed does he even begin to consider a new pair.  forget trying to get him to buy more than one pair at once — it has been accomplished but definitely not easily.    needless to say, i was quite pleased when i discovered soula which has been open since 2004.   owned by a former barney’s buyer, soula offers a wide range of sneakers as well as walking-about shoes and boots with their more popular brands including adidascamper, frye and timberland boot company and they also carry gola, ryan rowe  and tsubo.   there is a range of affordability from about $65 for some sneakers up to $375 for a men’s boot.   while the stock is not extraordinairy, it is great having these collections all in one place.   they also have a really great range of casual women’s wear particularly for spring and summer and a highly selective and very addictive kids’ collection  (keens and adidas as well as the super cute hunter wellies) which i keep wishing they would expand because most other options in south brooklyn are very boring.   soula can get crazy busy so my advice is to try to avoid going on weekend afternoons or keep hoping they will double their staff.    soula, 185 smith street at warren, brooklyn, and 184 fifth avenue at sackett, brooklyn, .
