gazala palace: a great theater district snack

puff

i love going to theater. since k and s’s arrival, i don’t make it as often, but when i do i find that i have even less time than before to grab food either before or after so i am desperate for a quick filling snack that might also serve as dinner and starbucks just doesn’t do it for me.  just a few blocks away on ninth avenue, i recently discovered these incredibly tasty burekas at gazala palace.  intensely fluffy and flaky, filled with a delicious goat cheese and spinach mixture (they also come with sun dried tomatos), these satisfying puff pastries are a specialty of the druse people who live primarily in syria, lebanon and israel according to the new york times.   i did not try anything else here, and i wouldn’t recommend getting the platter (it came with a boring salad).  i would just grab one to go on your way to a show.  gazala palace, 709 9th avenue between 48th and 49th streets, manhattan, new york, .
