blue apron foods: a nearly perfect pantry

since the late 80s, when i first lived in park slope, the food and shopping options have improved tremendously especially along 5th avenue.  7th avenue has been lagging behind but there are some bright spots.  One of these is blue apron foods

opened in 2002, this tiny little store has all the best sorts of goodies starting with a highly edited cheese selection.  i seem to have become very partial to their brebirousse (a lovely french sheep’s cheese) and if you need some help selecting their well-educated staff can definitely help.  blue apron also offers high quality olive oils, tons of vinegars, olives, as well as those difficult to find condiments such as smoked hungarian paprika.

in terms of baked goods, they offer a variety of breads from places like amy’s bread and pain d’avignon and treats from almondine bakery (the chocolate fondant is a favorite of mine) as well as a tasty sandwich of the day.  it is a bit pricey and not so child friendly (it is super narrow) but i am still always grateful it is nearby.  ps for you homesick brits they also sell original cadburys chocolate – not the home-grown hershey versions.  blue apron foods, 814 union street between 7th and 8th avenues, brooklyn, new york, .
